NEW in 2014: ALLIED MEMBER COMMITTEE

Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month @ 3:00pm.

Chair: Kathleen Blanchette

  • Promotes and fosters relationships between Allied and REALTOR® members.
  • Strives to expand participation in the Allied Membership program.

Affordable Housing Committee

Meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month @ 3:00pm.

Chair: Randall Barnett

  • Plans and coordinates community service projects and affordable housing initiatives.
  • Nominates a REALTOR® Good Neighbor award recipient each year.

Community Relations

Meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 9am

Chair: Randall Blankenship

  • Promotes public relations efforts of ABR aimed at improving the public image of REALTORS® and encouraging consumers to use the services of REALTORS®.
  • Plans and coordinates community service projects.
  • Reviews public and private requests for donations and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding donation endeavors.

E&E (Education and Events) Committee

Meets on the 2nd Monday of each month @ 3:00pm.

Co-Chairs: Lori Nelson and Randall Blankenship

  • Plans and coordinates educational programs and events for ABR members.  Events include designation courses, News You Can Use sessions, and other member development classes.
  • Plans and coordinates REXPO 2.0 (REALTOR® Exposition).
  • Plans and coordinates Board-wide social events.

Finance Committee

Meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every odd-numbered month @ 9:30am.

Chair: Pete McHugh

  • Monitors the financial status of the Board and its Subsidiaries.

Legislative & REALTORS® Political Action Committee [RPAC]

Meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month @ 1:30pm.

Legislative Chair: Liz Wiederhold — RPAC Chair: Stephanie Gosnell

  • Monitors local, state, and federal governmental actions.  Often, committee members attend city and/or county legislative events and recommend appropriate action/verbiage for proposed legislation relating to home ownership and private property rights.
  • Informs members of current issues.
  • Coordinates collections of RPAC contributions from ABR members.

Grievance Committee

Chair: Kristie Frizsell

  • Reviews ethics complaints and arbitration requests.
  • Decides whether or not to send ethics complaints and arbitration requests forward to the Professional Standards committee for hearings.
  • Grievance committee members are required to take Code of Ethics training.

Professional Standards Committee

Chair: Candy Whitt

  • Conducts full “due process” hearings with sworn testimony, witnesses, and evidence, for ethics complaints and arbitration requests forwarded by the Grievance committee or Board of Directors.
  • Professional Standards committee members are required to take Code of Ethics training and to have served on a Grievance or Professional Standards committee previously.

FAQs

 Question:  What is the time commitment?

  • Answer:  Most committees meet once per month.  Meetings are usually 1 hour in length.   Some committees sponsor events, so there are additional volunteer opportunities.

Question:  Where do committee meetings take place?

  • Answer:  All regularly scheduled committee meetings take place at the Asheville Board of REALTORS® office at 37 Montford Avenue.

Question:  Are there any experiential or educational requirements for committee participation?

  • Answer:  Only the Grievance and Professional Standards committees have prerequisites.  Formal Code of Ethics / Professional Standards training is required in order to review complaints and/or to serve on hearing panels.  Also, Professional Standards members should have previous experience on a Grievance or Professional Standards committee.
